Welcome to the Village of New Windsor, Illinois website!

The Village of Windsor is located in Rivoli Township in the County of Mercer in the northwest quadrant of the State of Illinois. The Village of Windsor was formed in 1857 and incorporated in 1901. According to lore, to avoid confusion with the existing Town of WIndsor located in Shelby County in Central Illinois, the post office assigned the name New Windsor to the Village of Windsor located in Mercer County and the railroad subsequently adopted the same name. The railroad is long gone, but the post office is still here and the village continues to be popularly known as New Windsor, Illinois. However, all official business is conducted as the Village of Windsor.
